Team Alberta’s men’s baseball ended its Canada Summer Games on a high note, defeating Manitoba 4–0 to secure fifth place.
Lacombe’s Zach MacDonald, who plays first base, drove in the winning run.
For him, representing Alberta was an unforgettable experience.
“This has been a surreal experience. To be here at the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, wearing Alberta across my chest, means the world to me,” MacDonald said.
“From getting to meet all of my new teammates, to having great coaching staff, to meeting new athletes from across the country and taking in new sports has been amazing.”
He also praised the volunteer and mission staff for their hospitality and commitment.
“We could never thank them enough for taking time out of their lives to help us succeed and ultimately put on a show for the fans. The whole environment brought the country together in supporting one another and making the Games a great experience for all.”
Week 1 of the Games concludes today, (August 16) with new athletes and sports arriving for Week 2, including athletics, women’s baseball, golf, soccer and volleyball.
So far Team Alberta athletes have earned 39 medals in the first week: seven gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.
