There’s a lot to look forward to from Netflix’s October new releases, including the return of Nobody Wants This for Season 2, and Season 3 of The Diplomat. Monster: The Ed Gein Story will have its premiere, in addition to Boots and a new Victoria Beckham docuseries.
Meanwhile, several TV shows and movies will be removed from the streaming site in Canada next month. Including comedy films Clueless and Superbad.
Additionally, The Nice Guys starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe will be leaving Netflix, as will the film The Man from U.N.C.L.E., with Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer, and the legal thriller series The Rainmaker.
What to watch on Netflix: New TV shows and movies
Monster: The Ed Gein Story — Oct. 3
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monsters anthology series continues with Monster: The Ed Gein Story. Charlie Hunnam plays serial killer and grave robber Eddie Gein.
Set in 1950s rural Wisconsin, we see Gein first as a “mild-mannered recluse,” until the nightmares are revealed.
“Once we talked about how influential he was and how his crimes, you can find threads of them through pop culture and through horror films — I think that’s when we knew we had a show,” Brennan, who wrote every episode, told Tudum.
“It’s really mind-blowing how influential one strange man in the middle of Wisconsin in a barn can be. That’s just the world we live in, that he lit this fuse that just continued popping off and set in motion this continuous topping of really intense, bizarre, strange imagery. I can’t think of another person who is really that influential to a genre of television and film.”
Boots — Oct. 9
Starring Parenthood alum Miles Heizer, Boots is a comedic drama set in the Marine Corps in the 1990s, when it was illegal to be gay in the military. The show is inspired by former US Marine Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine.
Closeted Cameron Cope (Heizer) is among a group of recruits, with his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine. Before enlisting, Cameron lived with his narcissistic mother, Barbara (Vera Farmiga).
Max Parker plays Sgt. Sullivan, who has been decorated for valour on several top-secret missions, but he sees himself in Cameron and tries to prepare him boot camp.
Victoria Beckham — Oct. 9
Following the release of the Emmy-winning Beckham, the new three-part docuseries Victoria Beckham looks at the superstar’s rise to fame with the Spice Girls, her relationship with husband David Beckham, and then becoming a force in fashion. It also features commentary from notable individuals, including Tom Ford, Roland Mouret, Anna Wintour and Eva Longoria.
The Diplomat, Season 3 — Oct. 16
After the bombshell Season 2 finale, where the president died just as he was on the phone with Hal (Rufus Sewell), Grace Penn (Allison Janney) has now taken on the role. This is after Kate (Keri Russell) accused her of hatching a terrorist plot and admitting that she was working toward taking Grace’s VP job. Now Kate’s career has gotten even more complicated.
Bradley Whitford has also joined the cast as First Gentleman Todd Penn.
“Working with Allison and Brad, watching them together again, and the off-the-charts foursome that is them with Keri and Rufus… It’s an insane bag of candy,” creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn told Tudum. “Our expectations were high, and it blew right past them.”
Nobody Wants This, Season 2 — Oct. 23
The fan favourite romantic comedy Nobody Wants This returns for Season 2 in October. Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) are deep in their “honeymoon phase,” but they aren’t exactly on the same page about whether Joanne will convert to Judaism. Brody’s wife, Leighton Meester, joins the cast for Season 2, along with Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky, Arian Moayed, Seth Rogen and Kate Berlant.
“It’s such an interesting part of every relationship when you now have to see if you can make it work with each other’s friends, day-to-day routines, and how you handle the milestones that come in those first few months together from holidays, birthdays, and what you each think the future should look like,” creator Erin Foster told Tudum.
A House of Dynamite — Oct. 24
In Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s new film, A House of Dynamite, when a single unattributed missile is launched at the U.S., the race begins to determine who is responsible. Written by Noah Oppenheim, the film’s stars include Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Moses Ingram, Greta Lee, Willa Fitzgerald, and Kaitlyn Dever.
